LaseMD Ultra at The Skin Clinic Antigonish: A new way to support brighter, smoother, healthier-looking skin.

At The Skin Clinic Antigonish, we’re always thoughtful about the treatments and technologies we bring into the clinic. Every device we choose needs to do more than sound impressive. It needs to make sense clinically, fill a real need for our patients, and fit with the way we approach skin health long term. That’s exactly why we brought LaseMD Ultra into the clinic.

LaseMD Ultra is a gentle but effective non-ablative fractional laser designed to improve the overall quality of the skin with relatively minimal downtime. Using a 1927 nm thulium laser, it can help address uneven tone and texture, pigmentation, sun damage, dullness, early fine lines and mild textural irregularities.

In other words, if your skin has been looking a little less clear, smooth or radiant than it used to, this is one treatment we may want to talk about.

First things first: what is a non-ablative fractional laser?

Laser terminology can get technical quickly, so here’s the short version.

Ablative lasers remove layers of the skin to create a more intensive resurfacing effect. They can produce significant results, but generally come with more downtime and a longer recovery period.

Non-ablative lasers, like LaseMD Ultra, work differently. Rather than removing the surface of the skin, controlled laser energy creates microscopic treatment zones within the skin while leaving surrounding tissue intact.

That controlled injury triggers the skin’s natural repair response and allows us to encourage renewal without the recovery associated with more aggressive resurfacing treatments. Think skin renewal, not skin removal.

So, what’s special about 1927 nm?

The 1927 nm thulium wavelength is particularly useful when we’re treating concerns such as pigmentation, uneven tone, sun damage, dullness and early textural changes.

Rather than targeting pigment directly in the same way some other lasers do, this wavelength is highly absorbed by water in the skin. This allows us to create controlled microscopic treatment zones that encourage the skin’s natural renewal process.

Or, without the laser science lesson: we’re creating a very controlled reason for your skin to get to work.

Over time, that process can help support:

  • Brighter, clearer-looking skin

  • More even skin tone

  • Smoother texture

  • Improvement in the appearance of pigmentation and sun damage

  • Softening of early fine lines

  • An overall fresher, healthier-looking complexion

What can LaseMD Ultra help with?

LaseMD Ultra can be used to address several of the skin concerns we commonly hear about in the clinic, including:

  • Uneven skin tone

  • Sun damage

  • Pigmentation

  • Dullness

  • Rough or uneven texture

  • Early fine lines

  • Mild acne scarring

  • Overall skin clarity

It can also be incorporated into a longer-term maintenance plan for someone who wants to continue supporting their skin quality as it changes with age. That said, not every pigment problem, line or texture concern needs the same treatment.

Sometimes LaseMD Ultra makes sense. Sometimes another laser, procedure or skincare plan makes more sense. That’s why we start with your skin, not the device.

What does a LaseMD Ultra treatment feel like?

Treatment experience varies depending on your skin, the settings being used and what we’re trying to accomplish.

Appointments are relatively quick, and because LaseMD Ultra is non-ablative, recovery is generally lighter than with more aggressive laser resurfacing. Following treatment, you may notice temporary redness and warmth. Over the next few days, the skin may develop a slightly bronzed appearance and feel dry or rough before light flaking occurs as it renews.

Translation: your skin may have a few “don’t judge me yet” days.

Your provider will explain exactly what to expect based on your treatment and give you detailed instructions for caring for your skin before and afterwards. Following that aftercare matters, especially when it comes to sun protection and protecting the skin barrier while it heals.

One treatment or a series?

You can see changes after a single LaseMD Ultra treatment, but when we’re working toward more meaningful correction, we generally recommend a series.

Many treatment plans include three treatments spaced approximately four weeks apart, although your individual plan will depend on your skin, concerns and treatment goals. Results develop gradually as the skin goes through its renewal process and collagen production is supported over time.

This isn’t really a “quick fix” treatment. It’s a skin quality treatment. We’re looking at how your skin looks and feels as a whole, and building improvement over time rather than chasing one concern appointment by appointment.

Why we brought LaseMD Ultra to The Skin Clinic Antigonish

We’re a skincare-forward medical aesthetics clinic, so we wanted a treatment that could sit comfortably between what we can accomplish with a great home skincare routine and more intensive resurfacing procedures. LaseMD Ultra fills that space very well.

It gives us another way to address concerns such as pigmentation, uneven tone, texture and early signs of aging while keeping the treatment and recovery approachable for many patients.

It also works well with the bigger-picture approach we take to skin.

We don’t look at a sun spot, fine line or patch of rough texture in isolation. We consider your skin, age, lifestyle, goals, current skincare routine, treatment history, sun exposure and what you’re realistically willing to do when it comes to downtime and aftercare.

Because the newest treatment isn’t automatically the right treatment. The right treatment is the one that makes sense for your skin.

Is LaseMD Ultra right for you?

The best way to know is through a consultation.

We’ll assess your skin, talk about what’s bothering you, discuss what kind of improvement is realistic and determine whether LaseMD Ultra belongs in your treatment plan.

If your skin has been looking dull, uneven, sun-damaged or simply not quite as clear and smooth as you’d like, LaseMD Ultra may be worth exploring.
